Robert Dougan, ASP.NET Web Developer
Skills
As a talented and enthusiastic ASP.NET developer, I combine my passion for web standards with a good working knowledge of the ASP.NET framework (from v1.1 to v4.0). Although conversant in VB.NET, I have primarily focused on C#. An in-depth knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript has been gained through over 4 years of commercial experience in the web development industry.
Real world exposure of the full project life-cycle has taught me the value of robust testing procedures and clear team communication. My desire to instil this ethic throughout the team has resulted in me championing testing processes and code reviews throughout my career. In conclusion, I believe my thirst for knowledge to be my strongest suite - and something I consider invaluable in today's fast-paced industry.

Employment History
Innovation Digital Ltd.
Innovation Digital was my most challenging role to date, and allowed me to develop both personally and professionally.
Primarily employed as a web developer, I implemented websites for a wide range of clients, from public sector work for Edinburgh City Council, to charities like Capability Scotland and multinational companies like Aggreko, The Weir Group and Capita, using the Immediacy CMS, as well as Innovation Digital's in house CMS (both systems run on ASP.NET 2.0).
I was also deeply involved in internal process development for the technology team, including testing and project life-cycle procedures. I carried out accessibility testing on behalf of clients, including the Department for International Development.
My work allowed me to liaise directly with clients to determine requirements and functionality, as well as developing the sites from start to finish, including front end work, custom C# development, database integration and testing.
Solution Canvas Ltd.
During my time at Solution Canvas, I had the opportunity to work on all areas of the development life-cycle using both .NET 1.1 and .NET 2.0 as well as regularly liaising with clients and giving demonstrations of developed products.
I developed several CMS sites for clients such as Celtic Football Club, to promote our in house "justia" software and also provided custom development for Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Office Live.
Tuna Ltd.
This role allowed me to build on skills I gained at university and also introduced me to working in a fast paced and busy commercial environment. It was a challenging and demanding position. I was involved in web application development from the bottom up, including relational database design, application building using ASP.NET (1.1 and 2.0) with C#, through to debugging and testing. Cross browser site compatibility and W3C standards were also issues that I needed to be aware of and implement.
I was also involved in existing website maintenance (using XHTML), liaising with clients, compiling reports based on web stats, HTML email alerts to drive interest in websites and for market research purposes. The role also involved some design work, using graphics packages like Adobe Fireworks. I worked with several well known clients including Subway, Whyte and Mackay, Buildstore and BetDirect.
Interests and Activities
I am a big music fan and enjoy going to gigs and reading about music. I have always been interested in computers and technology in general and am especially keen on web design and development and the future role that the Internet has in society. I also enjoy football, movies, socialising with friends in pubs and clubs and reading.
In order to further my knowledge of the Umbraco CMS, I have built pro bono websites for family and friends, including Peppercorn Solutions, Milngavie Golf Club and the East Kilbride Design Corporation. Also, I'm a keen follower of the .NET community, and enjoy reading official Microsoft and also independent blogs about the latest emerging trends, and the part they can play in my own work.
